Orji Victor, a 14-year-old pupil of Loral International Secondary School, Lagos has won this year's edition of Amuwo Odofin Youth Essay and Awards is organized by the Meljenstin Youth Empowerment Initiative and Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The competition was in two stages, oral and written, and had as topic: "Is social media a welcome plus to youth education and morals, or a minus with grave consequences?"
The event which was attended by both 20 participating schools saw Victor winning the cash prize of N70,000 for his effort. Also, Ezugwu Chidimma of St. Jude's Private School and Ezenwa Jessica of Amuwo Odofin Community Junior Secondary School came second and third respectively and went home with the cash prize of N50,000 and N25,000 respectively.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, said the yearly essay competition is to encourage learning and inculcate reading culture in youths.
