MUMBAI: Online admission for distance-education students has run into trouble, with candidates complaining that the system is not accepting their forms, declaring them invalid.

Admissions close on July 27. But complaints from students may force the university to extend the date. Management council member Dilip Karande said he had demanded an extension till August 16.

online educationA little over 75,000 students had taken admission to various programmes run by the Institute of Open and Distance Learning (IDOL) last year. This year, the university projects enrolment to cross one lakh. Most candidates sign up for the undergraduate course in commerce. This is the first time students have been asked to register online before submitting their application forms to colleges. A copy of the pre-admission form has to be attached with the application form.

"I have been unable to log into the website. I have tried at three cyber cafes," said a candidate from a night junior college. "I managed to register, but every time I log in using the password that was sent to my phone, I get a message saying invalid," said another candidate.
