RSS chief decries commercialization of education

Written By Blogger on Senin, 22 Juli 2013 | 01.43

GAYA: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday decried the commercialisation of education and pleaded to make education value-based, meaningful and socially productive. Bhagwat was inaugurating the DayaPrakashSaraswatiVidyaMandir in the Maranpur locality of the town.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat Bhagwat also expressed concern at the declining influence of Hindi as a medium of instruction and said that for being really meaningful, education has to be rooted in culture. Bhagwat'sviews on the language issue were apparently in sync with the views of BJP chief Rajnath Singh who, the other day, blamed the English language for most of the ailments of modern India.

Bhagwat regretted that modern marketing techniques were being employed to promote educational institutions and the guardians, too, suffered from some kind of herd mentality and accepted every glittering thing as gold. "This was not good for the future of the country," he said.

Cautioning parents and guardians against the tendency to impose their choice on their ward in the matter of education and career selection, the RSS chief advised parents to allow the students to pursue the career of their choice and do not meddle in career options. Bhagwat also said that value-based, and not knowledge centric education, was the need of the hour. The RSS chief also wanted parents and guardians to encourage young boys and girls to exercise their own reasoning faculties and make enlightened choices on the basis of 'sanskar'.
