Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships for Australian Students in USA

Fulbright Commission offers up to twelve Fulbright postgraduate scholarships for Australian citizens annually. Applicants will be required to show evidence of Australian citizenship on applying for a Fulbright scholarship. Scholarships are awarded for 8 – 10 months of research program relevant to an Australian PhD; or undertake an approved course of study in an American higher degree. The application deadline is 12 August 2013.

Study Subject (s): Fulbright general scholarships are open to applicants from all academic fields of study. The Fulbright sponsored scholarship is open to applicants in all fields of study, however have specific eligibility requirements.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate degree level at US Universities.

Eligibility:
-Applicants must be Australian citizens by birth or naturalization.
-Permanent resident status does not satisfy this requirement and nationals of other countries cannot be treated as Australian citizens even though they may have resided in Australia for a considerable time.
-Applicants will be required to show evidence of Australian citizenship on applying for a Fulbright Scholarship.
-Applicants holding United States/Australian dual citizenship, or Green Card holders residing abroad, are ineligible and will not be considered for a Fulbright Scholarship.
-Persons applying for or holding permanent residence in the United States or Australia are not eligible.
-Persons who are citizens of both Australia and the United States are also ineligible.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of Australia can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships are available to Australian citizens to engage in 8 – 10 months of research relevant to an Australian PhD; or undertake an approved course of study in an American higher degree. These scholarships are aimed at current PhD students, honours students, or honours graduates who are considering postgraduate study in the U.S. The Commission offers up to twelve (12) Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships annually. These include: Fulbright general scholarships and Fulbright sponsored scholarship.

Number of award (s): The Commission offers up to twelve (12) Fulbright postgraduate scholarships annually.

Duration of award (s): -Fulbright Postgraduate Scholars must spend  8-10 months in the U.S., the majority of time should be at their host institution.
-Fulbright funding is for a maximum of 10 months only but will be reduced for shorter programs. Applicants must demonstrate they have sufficient additional funds to support themselves and any dependants during their stay in the U.S. If enrolling they must have funds available or to seek a tentative waiver.
-Fulbright scholarships support up to 10 months. Applicants are able to extend their stay but without funding from the Fulbright Commission.

Note: The cost of obtaining a postgraduate degree from a U.S. university can be as much as USD 40,000 per year. For this reason, applicants should investigate additional funding sources from their universities along with private and government sources to cover tuition fees as the Fulbright Scholarship will only cover living and travel expenses.

-Adaptability

Notification: Scholarship applicants will be notified of the selection outcomes by November/December 2013.
